Terms: 5 pages; Cloud Policy: 4 pages; Privacy Policy: 3 pages; About Policy: 2 pages; Cookie Policy: 2 pages (and this isn't all of them). Visit their legal page and you'll see that it's very confusing. |
The Right to Privacy | 2 out of 5 |
GOOD ASPECTS: They respect "Do Not Track" signals. They don't keep personal information after it is used for its intended purpose. They offer safe browsing opt-out; location awareness opt-out; google analytics opt-out browser add-on; all good. BAD ASPECTS: They have a privacy policy and a privacy notice. Confusing. They don't provide an email address--just a snail mail address. They do not discuss account recovery and cell phone porting in a proper manner. |
The Right to Equal, Fair, & Reasonable Expression | 3 out of 5 |
BAD ASPECTS: They can kick you off the communities for any reason whatsoever, but it's mostly a browser, so not a huge issue. GOOD ASPECTS: They do not specify any censorship rules, which is good. |
The Right to Control My Intellectual Property | 3 out of 5 |
GOOD ASPECTS: There's a good link to report IP infringement, but it's unclear about their process for ensuring that false accusations don't inadvertently remove content. You own your copyrights. BAD ASPECTS: Allows a non-exclusive, royalty-free, and worldwide license that is sublicensable, but... the sublicense is only to those they work with, and not to random third parties, so that's good. |
The Right to Sue | 2 out of 5 |
California Law. BAD ASPECTS: The required venue of Santa Clara County, CA is only mentioned in one of the many agreements, so that's not cool. Further, your recovery is limited to $500, and most any lawsuit will cost you more than that. GOOD ASPECTS: You can sue. :D |
The Right to Low-Cost Arbitration | 0 out of 5 |
BAD ASPECTS: It appears you cannot arbitrate. All claims must be brought in courts in Santa Clary County, California. GOOD ASPECTS: None. |
The Right to Join a Class Action | 5 out of 5 |
No waiver. |
The Right to No Hidden Terms or Fees | 2 out of 5 |
BAD ASPECTS: Way too many agreements. Seriously guys, what is up with that? It's impossible to know if a user has read everything that applies to him or her. GOOD ASPECTS: It is otherwise more or less straightforward. |
The Right to Fair Process & To Be Heard | 0 out of 5 |
BAD ASPECTS: Can kick you off and suspect your account for any reason, but will notify you after the fact. Lame. Hard to find the email address to contact them. Due process deficient. Warning process deficient. No opportunity to correct. No defense period. No fair and impartial decision making process. GOOD ASPECTS: None. |
The Right to Appeal & The Right to Return | 0 out of 5 |
No appeal process. No right to return. |
The Right to Reasonable Terms | 2 out of 5 |
BAD ASPECTS: The cookie policy has too many 'learn more' links. Not cool. The legal page is a mess, with so many confusing policies. GOOD ASPECTS: It's open source software so you can edit the source code for your personal use as you like. It seems slightly fairer than most of the other big tech companies out there. |

Additional Note | Email: legal-notices@mozilla.com Hard to find their terms of service agreements, and there are so many of them! It's not clear which ones apply to which users. |
|
Ways to improve | 1. Consolidate all the policies into one. Your current situation is a big mess.
